The scientific literature provides a clear substantiation of the impossibility of producing good quality alternative fuel from the municipal waste by only mechanical sorting and shredding due to the low percentage of useful product output and its unacceptably high humidity level.

CHARACTERISTICS
Biodrying is aerobic biological waste treatment for removal of the moisture from its mass. Biodrying is usually one of the stages in production of SRF (solid recovered fuel) and PEF (processed engineered fuel). It allows to dry the waste and enables its cleaner mechanical treatment.
Biodrying is based on the highly efficient and highly automated biological cleaning system, which has 20 years of successful industrial application and continuous research and development efforts.
We decided to present biological drying design solutions as a separate process as well, as earlier it was believed that obtaining SRF fuel of acceptable quality was only possible by mechanical sorting and grinding of waste, and a number of plants were designed and built based on this assumption. It has now become evident from the scientific literature that this assumption was wrong, and that moisture in the waste mass greatly deteriorates the final quality of the produced alternative fuel, its low calorific value being preserved.
